Our Purpose

As a church, our purpose is to worship God, to introduce people to Jesus and to become more and more in every way like Him.

Our Vision

To be a church that is worshipping, growing, full of love and contributing to local and world mission as each one in the church does his or her own special work.

Our 2007 Objectives

Closer To God

  • Invigorate our corporate worship and prayer, building on developments in 2005/06 relating to the new Wednesday evening format, the introduction of the prayer team and evening communion
  • Use the lead up to the 40th anniversary as an opportunity to join together regularly to seek God earnestly in prayer
  • Seek to ensure that preaching and teaching is of a consistently high standard, that it is applied to all aspects of life, and that as a church we respond to God’s word Prayer

Closer to one another:

  • Pray for one another consistently, on a personal and collective basis (e.g. through Wednesday meetings, care groups, Direction, mentoring, prayer team, prayer with co leaders of activities and informal/personal prayer opportunities)
  • Increase the extent to which we are known by our love for one another, especially providing support to those going through difficult times (ensuring that the elders, care group leaders and activity leaders provide the pastoral support that is needed, and that we all play a part in meeting each other’s needs)
  • Enjoy working and serving together, seeking to ensure that the 40th anniversary is a time of joyful thanksgiving and celebration

Closer to our communities

  • Seek to make the good news about Jesus known to people of all ages in our communities throughout the year, and through the 40th celebrations
  • Continue to make improvements to our building in order to increase the extent to which we can be an effective witness in the years ahead
  • Seek to re-engage with those who have left the church and are not pursuing their faith
  • Run Christianity Explored in the latter part of 2007
  • Work to ensure that First Sunday, weekly All Age Services and special seasonal services are welcoming and relevant and that those attending are drawn to Christ through all that is said and done
  • To pray for and practically support the ongoing work in Bruntsfield and Muirhouse with children and young people

Closer to God’s global work

  • Partner with others who are doing God’s work locally and globally, giving generously and praying faithfully.
